It took a while……… but I’ve finally arrived.

“Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.” – Henry David Thoreau

“Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.” – William Shakespeare  “Twelfth Night”

“Great men need great events.” – unknown author (although it might have been me)

Before this month, I fell squarely in the first quote category. Now I am honored to say I am one of those who has had greatness thrust upon him.

For those who do not know, I am a member of a club which was founded by a fascinating blogger, Margie, at As iAge. The club is aptly named “Never Been Freshly Pressed” and membership is very exclusive. There are only around 400,000 potential members. Margie was not only the founder, but self-appointed President as well. Earlier this month, Margie found herself in the embarrassing position of having been Freshly Pressed. According to the club’s by-laws (which exist only in verbal form), this immediately disqualified her as a member, not to mention her exalted position. Having few places to turn she asked me to accept the mantle of carrying on this huge responsibility. Without a moment’s hesitation, I picked up the scepter and I’m off and running.

I have created a new page on my blog which any of you, assuming you haven’t been previously singled out by the FP gods of WordPress, may read and use to apply for membership, if you so desire. Former members, who have had the misfortune of being cast out due to recognition by FP, may visit as guests only.

I would like to assure members that I will try my best to uphold the tenets of the club, which can best be summed up in one phrase: “For the few, Freshed Pressedness; for the masses, obscurity.” To this end, I intend to lead by example, as illustrated by the mediocrity of this post.

NBFP club

P.S. As added incentive to join, you may then display this seal of recognition on your sidebar. What parent wouldn’t be proud?

Hi Elisa. I hope you find your A when you are done LOLing. It should be somewhere on the floor.

Thanks for following, too. Heading over now to check out your blog.Have a great day!

      • Elisa says:

I spent years trying to escape my A, but now I know that I just have to bend over and to scoop it up and lug it along. Wherever I go, there I am! Shrugs…

  2. Barbara says:

102 followers! Your presidency really is boosting your stats!

PS I keep forgetting to say ignore what my thingy says about 800+ followers… 500 of them are via twitter & Facebook so they don’t count at all. Can’t work out how to eliminate them from that figure apart from spelling it out which seems a bit daft!

  3. The Cutter says:

As the Chairman of the NBFP Club’s Passive Aggressiveness Committee I have this to say:

I prefer my NBFP status. I just means that I haven’t peaked yet. Those FP people? Yesterday’s news.

    • Al says:

Couldn’t agree more Cutter. In fact, I’m waiting until blogging is a Pulitzer prize category. Thanks my real goal.

Reblogged this on As iAge and commented:
When I was Freshly Pressed, I had to kick myself out of The Never Been Freshly Pressed Club’. Without consulting anyone, I dictatorially selected Al to take over the position of President. Here is Al’s Acceptance Speech:

Finally, a club I can join!

  10. I don’t think I’ve been pressed. It sounds painful. Congratulations or something.

BTW I read about 1/3 of the new book This City by Leibovich (WP reporter). Disgusting gossip about the suckup crowd here in DC. I don’t belong to that club either. Dianne

  11. I wish I could join Margie’s club, but I can’t because of some cosmic fluke that happened during the first days my blog was released. It only happened once and never again. Now I’m barred for life. Does that seem fair? I may have to start a support group for those of us who were only Freshly Pressed once and never again. Those cads raised our expectations and then have ignored us. It’s cruel I tell you. Inhumane.

  12. Jane Thorne says:

Hello everyone, this could lead us to the font of all knowledge for the creams that they keep mentioning in spam comments….the creams that cure all sorts of unmentionables. Oh the excitement. Talking of excitement, Al I can tell that you could barely contain yours! 🙂

    • Al says:

I need to contain my excitement some, Jane, lest the devious ones at WordPress decide to “take me out” like they did poor Margie.

  13. pegoleg says:

I misread that sentence as “I picked up the SCOOPER” That makes the sentence very different. Congratulations on your new leadership role. “Heavy hangs the head that wears teh crown” or some such twaddle.

    • Al says:

Good point though, Peg. I’ll have to be careful not to pick up the scepter when I really need the scooper.

Hope you had (or are having) a good trip to England.

  14. Grannymar says:

Fresh pressed is how I like my coffee. It is coffee you were talking about. Right?

  15. Red Hen says:

Great post! I`m going to follow you-and other members of the Never Been Freshly Pressed club, because, well, I feel doomed to be eternally creased too.

    • Al says:

Welcome, RH, on behalf of wrinkled bloggers everywhere. Your obscurity is safe with us.

P.S. Enjoyed your blog, although I did see a few posts that looked FP worthy. Please try to be more careful in the future.

I want to thank you again for taking over the Presidency of the ‘Never Been Freshly Pressed Club”. I truly hope it is a title you can keep for some time, because being Freshly Pressed is not nearly as glamorous as it is made out to be. I gained 50 followers, 45 of which were either spam, non-existent, or extremely, extremely strange!

    • Al says:

It’s been my honor, although it has cost me my almost total anonymity. But the good news is, I’ve been successful at avoiding the spotlight all my life so this should be a piece of cake!

    • pegoleg says:

C’mon Margie, didn’t you pick up valuable sources for knock-off designer handbags?

      • Margie says:

No. But I have a lot of links that tell me how to make Money Blogging if I pay them to join their programs. And there was a blogger who uses the photos of other famous photographers and claims them as his own. Oh, and an AudioSexx site…

Your turn to write, but please don't be wittier than me. My ego is quite fragile.
